Indianapolis, Ind., September 24, 2002 — ITW Gema introduces the OPTITRONIC™ control unit, which is designed to improve control of the automatic application of powder. Like its manual gun counterpart, the EASYTRONIC™, the OPTITRONIC provides improved film thickness control through accurate and repeatable performance.

ITW Gema’s OPTITRONIC™ control unit ensures accurate and repeatable performance on its automatic guns.

Each unit comes equipped to store up to 255 coating programs that can be selected for different powder types, part styles, and/or line speed. This produces the unique repeatability required to achieve better process control, which takes the guesswork out of the application. By precisely controlling the delivery and application, powder can be applied efficiently and distributed more evenly across the products sprayed, generating substantial powder savings.

The OPTITRONIC is able to provide optimal repeatability and accuracy because motor driven flow valves are used to deliver the exact volume of compressed air required for each application. By using this design, operators can have the confidence that when adjustments are made, they can stay consistent, and changes from setting to setting are always repeatable.

The OPTITRONIC is easy to use thanks to the membrane touch pads for output adjustment, digital displays for reading outputs, and LED’s for diagnostics. Each OPTITRONIC is also equipped with an individual control of both voltage and current, allowing operators to select between voltage adjustment and current control.

By storing the coating parameters in the unit, programs can be activated manually or by a programmable logic controller (PLC).

The OPTITRONIC PLUS is designed for those applications requiring a greater level of control. The OPTITRONIC PLUS communicates with a remote PLC, which stores and manipulates application data before sending it to the control unit.

An optional Powder Flow Control Module is designed for those applications requiring a higher level of repeatability. Inside the control unit, a measurement device senses the air volume being sent to the powder pump and, as fluctuations occur, the unit makes appropriate compensations.

ITW Gema is the global leader and virtual pioneer of the powder coating process. ITW Gema, a business unit of the Illinois Tool Works Corporation, operates the North American Headquarters from Indianapolis, Indiana.
